I did not want to include any political pieces on this blog. I felt it would bog the blog down in some kind of political Morass over time and make it less than fun for even me, who loves politics, to read on a regular basis.

With all the back and forth discussions that have been going on surrounding gates gate, I felt it necessary to post an article I felt spoke to the core of the issue here. I think this is a prime example of when keeping it real goes wrong. Whether you are black or white it is a good idea to maintain some level of street smarts or you will get burned. You will not always be able to escape the realities of the mean streets as you have to probably walk or drive on them at some point. In my experience, even if you feel it will get you nowhere, it is better not to get mouthy with the police. No matter who you are. Maybe frustration coupled with a lifetime of dedication to capitalizing on racial tensions in the united states came to a boiling point that night. The result might have been an atrophy of the parts of Professor Gates’ brain that should have those street smarts firmly embedded. What bothers me the most about the situation is the way in which it ended up cornering Obama. There is a problem in America in terms of the police and their relationship with minorities. Over the past few decades the problem has slowly been worked and there are improvements. This incident helped in many ways but not in the way I think Gates intended. It helps to bring the discussion of race relations in the US out in the open. Eric Holder’s controversial comments on race relations in America seem less and less controversial these days.

This incident seems to highlight the fact that America is infact a “Nation of Cowards” when it comes to discussing race. Let us all move forward. This movement must include those who have made a career of race tensions in the US.  For those that would use race as an excuse to stifle the growth of and thus deny the world the full potential of a groups abilities to change it for the better, it has to stop. For those who would use race as a reason to defer responsibility for their own actions and distructive attitudes, it must stop. for those who would capitalize on any of this for the sole purpose of capitalizing personally, shame on you.
